“My first 5K at 40 something…what!? Yes, I just participated in my first race, the Lady Tutu 5K at Easton. I decided to take on this adventure as a bonding experience for me and my teenage daughter. Of course when I told her I did get the, ‘Are you kidding me Mom? We have to run? How many miles is that?’ I told her not to worry! We could run or walk and we got to make tutus. With some persistence of HOW MUCH FUN her mom is by wanting to do this with her…we entered the race and planned our shopping trip to JoAnn Fabrics. We had fun making the tutus together and watching a girly movie.
Race day arrived and waking a teenager at 6:30 a.m. on a Saturday…well its not fun! We made it to the race and I was surprised how many people I knew who were running too. We were all yapping away in our tutus then the gun sounded and off we went. It was so cold and windy, but we made it with walking, jogging and sprints (not my idea). We finished the race together. I let my daughter cross the finish before me so she could beat her mom. On the way home she asked when can we do another one?”
